Nothing like a couple of days off from work to confirm how stupid my work hurs are. I have spent more quality time with Grace (Sarah too) in the last 2 days than sine I can't remember.
Must plan my escape from my career!

Anybody Reading at all?
I realize I haven't been posting much lately but if you have ANY opinion at all about any posts, a comment is always appreciated. I'm starting to feel like The Maytag Repairman (my personal favorite, Gordon Jump).

Evil Democrats!!
This quote from Nancy Pelosi tells me the Democrats have gone too far in trying to get to Tom DeLay:
"The time has come that the American people know exactly what their Representatives are doing here in Washington. Are they feeding at the public trough, taking lobbyist-paid vacations, getting wined and dined by special interest groups? Or are they working hard to represent their constituents? The people, the American people, have a right to know...I say the best disinfectant is full disclosure, not isolation."
Oops. I'm so sorry. That quote is actually from Tom DeLay on November 16, 1995. Hat Tip Atrios.

BBC - Home of real journalists
On the way home from work at an idiotic hour, I happened on aninterview on the BBC World Service with Tony Blair (the interviewer was Jeremy Paxman).
All I can say was HOLY SHIT!!! Paxman was asking rapid fire tough questions, he would interrupt Blair if he thought he was stonewalling, and was rather combativethroughout the entire interview. If Tim Russert ever tried to interview GW Bush like this, he would be pilloried in the press.
To his credit, Blair did his best to defend himself, albeit unsuccessfully. He sounded exponentially more intelligent and coherent than the leader of this country.
It seems the free press is alive and well... in the UK.

A Serious Theological Question
Do you think that the guys who are in line to become the Pope have their "Pope Name" already picked out?? Or is it like the scene in Animal House where they are given their name (I call you Pope Pinto)?

Why I Suck, Part 338
Often I get home from work after Grace has gone to bed. Some, but not all, nights, I poke my head in very quietly to see her sleeping. I have never woken her up... until tonight.
For some reason, she was sleeping especially lightly and she opened her eyes when I popped in the room. Mayhem ensued. We ignored the wails for as long as we could. Then mother , AKA my wife (I'm quite certain quietly seething at me), went in to stop the flood of tears. Helpless onthe other side of the door, I silently promised to never to THAT again - sort of like Chef's mantra in Apocalypse Now - "Never leave the boat."
Did I mention that Sarah was already in bed and was about to turn out the light when I pulled my little stunt?
All told, Grace took about 45 minutes to finally settle down. Never open the door indeed.

Republican Congress hypocrisy alert!
Today the GOP House with a little help from some Democrats repealed the estate tax. Now, this won't automatically become law, as they will have to get the Senate on board.
The next time you hear a congressman going on about how Social Security is going to run out of money, ask him why he wanted to enact a tax cut that will HUGELY benefit .5% (that Point 5) of people in this country when that money could have gone toward helping make Social Security solvent for 90% of people who really need it in this country.
To quote the great Jack Warden in Used Cars, "These people are human scum."

Guiltiest. Pleasure. Ever.
It's been a busy week.
Tonight, on the way home from band practice, my drummer turned the station from my usual political talk radio (I was out of the car for 20 seconds at best - quick fingers he has) to the local classic rock station.
As I was dropping him off, "Night Moves" by Bob Seger came on. I am here to freely admit that I really like that song. I could do without the pseudo black girl backing vocals, but I chalk that up to the times. Musically that is one of the greatest riffs OF ALL TIME. G to F to C, then F to G. Simple, yet elegant.
Correction (thanks Keath):
"Points all her own, sittin way up high."

Why Grace is Smart
Today Sarah brought Grace to my work (at my insistence).
Within 1 minute of being on set, she starting screaming uncontrollably. She instinctively knew this was no place to be.
I wish I could say she was a chip off the old block. She is, but off her mother's block!
