Too Soon?

The feature film "Flight 93" is being released next week. I've had discussions with several people about it and some believe it is too early for a movie like that, seeing that the day was less than 5 years ago. My initial impression is that we as a society should be able to handle this story, especially as it is the first moment in the "War on Terror" (not my slogan, that's for sure).

Is it too early? What say you?

My feeling about a movie coming out this soon about that tragic day is: if you lost a family member or friend--it's got to be unwatchable. That is--unless you can put the blinders on and look at the film as a memorial to your loved one. I'm sure this is a fine film--the reviews have been terrific all around. But aside from losing loved ones or having hardships in regular life, the tragedy of 9/11 defines the most horrible moment in most New Yorkers lives. I also find that the closer you were PHYSICALLY to the towers that day, the more you were emotionally affected. And that is a major reason why there were only 50 people in the Kips Bay theater for the 7:30 Friday night show. Too close. Too soon.
